The problems young people are facing cut across social, economic, and racial lines. Some of these issues include drug addiction, youth violence, teen pregnancy, teen driving accidents, and unemployment. Our young people are also exposed to relentless influences of the internet, movies, and the music industry, which are causing high levels of anxiety among young people.
Unfortunately, the millennials are often too inexperienced to handle these problems positively. Without proper support and guidance, they can easily engage in disruptive forms of behaviours. Therefore, instead of us focusing on the negative aspects of this generation, we should find a way to help them make their lives better. yourtown has decided to change the narrative and is working with Australian youths to make their lives better.
Led by Tracy Adams, yourtown is a charity organization that provides services that help young people learn new skills, find jobs, become responsible parents, and live safer and happier lives. The organization believes the problems being faced by our young people can be solved and that every young person has a right to a bright future.
Since its launch in 1961, yourtown has been trying to solve issues impacting youths in Australia, for instance, family issues, mental health, and unemployment. The organization delivers services that get results both locally and internationally. Some of their services include training and employment services for young people, kids’ helpline, family refuges, and parent education. Last year alone, yourtown helped more than 250,000 children, families, and young people.
The team at yourtown works is passionate about youth empowerment and include counsellors, youth workers, researchers, indigenous mentors, human resource advisors, and child and family workers. Where do they get their funds from? yourtown is mainly funded by the community.
