The Gold Coast is
a major tourist destination with a wonderful sunny subtropical climate.
It is also the sixth largest city in Australia, and the largest non-capital city. Recent ABS figures (2016) put the total LGA population @ 567,644.
The Gold Coast is widely known for its surfing beaches, high-rise skyline in the North, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland.
The region is also the major film production hub for the state of Queensland.
Tourism is certainly the region's biggest industry with around 10 million people visiting annually. That's 800,000 international visitors, 3.2 million domestic overnight visitors and 6.1 million day-trippers! (2015 TRA figures)
Quite a significant number of those arrive visitors on the GC through the busy International and Domestic terminals of the Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta.
And of course, recently, the Gold Coast was to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games, so there were a few more visitors floating around in April :)
And in case you are wondering...
What do all those people do on the GC?
Well...
There are around 65,000 beds, 60 kilometres of beach, 600 kilometres of canals, 100,000 hectares of nature reserve, 500 restaurants, 40 golf courses, multiple theme parks, along with several car racing, music, surfing and athletic events and festivals for them to visit and take part in!
But that's just the tip of the iceberg with what the GC has to offer!
You really DO have to visit to find out what really goes on here.
