Encaustic Art, the ancient art of Painting with Beeswax first practised by Greek artists from Pompei who travelled to Egypt to paint the likenesses of deceased dignitaries in beeswax onto wooden plaques which were then wrapped in the mumified remains before burial.
In 1987 a Welshman named Michael Bossom developed a modernised version using precoloured wax blocks and thermostaticaly controled tools which brought the delights of wax painting to everyone. This has enabled many with no previous artistic experience from the very young to the elderly to create impressive works of art with ease.
Margaret and Ian Hesford of Art Encaustic of NSW are dedicated to promoting this incredibly creative art form throughout Australia and operate an on line store to supply all the materials and advice necessary.
